One Of The Leading Crypto Exchanges Was Hacked… Again
Bithumb was hacked again (the previous hack happened less than a year ago, in June). 3M EOS and 20M XRP have been transferred out. Hey ho. This shit happens so often that it’s getting tiresome to report.
Fun fact: Bithumb’s first hack was identical to the latest one. So no lessons were learned, no cues were taken. Even funnier: after the first attack (with a $30M+ loss) Korean authorities still issued the fiat license for an exchange. Un-fucking-believable.
Bithumb states that users’ funds are safe. Ok, that’s very reassuring, if you ask me. I bet they said the same after the first hack. And to add spice to this whole affair: Bithumb suspects that insiders were involved in the attack. Check this out: “We constantly monitor and block external hacking. However, it was our fault that we only focused on the defense of outside attack and lack of verification of internal staff.” This deserves a major eyes-rolling action.
